"nip it in the bud"

16 July 2008

The Financial Ombudsman Service launches its campaign to raise awareness of the service among older consumers at The Retirement Show 2008, taking place at London Olympia this weekend (18 and 19 July 2008).

Focusing on a period in life when consumers are likely to face significant change – and important financial challenges and decisions – the campaign reminds older people about their right as consumers to use the independent free ombudsman service, in the event of a dispute with a bank, insurance company or finance firm.

come and meet us

To mark the event, the ombudsman service is launching a new range of information and publicity materials – to highlight the role and relevance of the ombudsman service. So come and meet us at The Retirement Show on our stand (c41).

The ombudsman's campaign to engage with older people also involves:

  • adverts in Choice magazine [opens in PDF format]
  • coverage in Age Concern's publication Inform and Advise (for Age Concern carers and advisers) and Citizens Advice's magazine Adviser
  • coverage in the Mature Times and the Oldie

This initiative is part of the ombudsman service's commitment to outreach work with specific groups of consumers, who have lower levels of awareness and usage of the ombudsman.
