Jane Whittles, principal ombudsman, to move on

24 June 2004

After four years with the Financial Ombudsman Service, Jane Whittles, one of the three principal ombudsmen, is to move on to take up a senior role with the Abbey group.

Making the announcement, Sue Slipman, chairman of the Financial Ombudsman Service, today said:

Jane took over the role, first as principal ombudsman with the Personal Investment Authority Ombudsman Bureau in 2000, and subsequently with the Financial Ombudsman Service after the merger of the former ombudsman schemes in 2001. Over this period, she has overseen and helped plan for the massive rise in investment-related complaints which the organisation has had to cope with. She took principal responsibility for mortgage endowment cases, split-capital investment trust complaints, disputes relating to Equitable Life, and latterly for general insurance complaints. In addition, she has contributed hugely to the senior management of the organisation. The achievement she will leave behind is by any measure a substantial one. We wish her well in her new role.

Jane Whittles will be leaving the ombudsman service in July, prior to taking up her new post at Abbey in the autumn.
